So this weekend, expedition members Samuel and Jacob along with Karl a current climbing partner of Sam will be meeting up in Lone Pine CA. where they will set their sights on Mt Whitney's mountaineers route. Mt. Whitney is the highest summit in the contiguous United States with an elevation of 14,505 feet (4,421 m). Whitney saw its first ascent in August 18, 1873, Charles Begole, A. H. Johnson, and John Lucas locals from near by Lone Pine who named the peak Fisherman's peak after their trade but the peak was later given its original name attributed to Josiah Whitney who was the benefactor of the July 1864 California Geological Survey who's expedition first surveyed the peak.
For us Whitney should be a good climb a time to learn each others habits as well as actually meet face to face before we get to AK. The only shame in this trip is that I wont be able to say "no, haven't meet anyone on the expedition yet" I love to see and hear peoples reaction when they find out we are all from different places and most of us will not meet till we get to Alaska, trust me its priceless
With everything else looking positive i.e sunshine, a strong physical and mental state its the snow on the other hand that does not look so hot. With the warm weather we have been having we will definitely be looking at an Alpine start to the weekend to avoid climbing through the mashed potatoes that will be the snow.
Well when you here from us next it will hopefully be with pics from the top of Whitney!
