The Red Rock Rendezvous

So me and the partner in crime headed out to the RRR  for a weekend of good times and a brush up in crevasse rescue that may be needed in Denali. Upon passing the glimmering lights of the Vegas night we made a left and headed away from Sin City and toward the brutal winds of the Red Rocks basin. As we pulled into Spring Mountain we opted out of the tent camping and made camp in the car. As the sun rose we were able to see that our choice was good as the sign said "If you lost your tent please go to registration to make sleeping arrangements."

The days agenda was simple wait out the wind and cold till our clinic started. At 9:30 were greeted by two rad climbers from American Alpine Institute. Our instructors Kristen and Angela were awesome, being that it would be impossible to cover all the information on glacier travel and crevasse rescue in a short amount of time they did a great job on delivering the meat and potatoes. We were able to build our own 3:1 pulley system as well as the 6:1 and perform a self rescue using the faithful prusik system. I would encourage anyone looking to take on this sort of adventure to seek instruction from an operation like AAI or one of its caliber it could save your life.

So all in all it was a great weekend thanks to the guys at Mountain Gear for putting on the event, It will definitely be on my list of things to do for years to come!
