As I promised... I now bring you some highlights from my last training day and a bit of an update. With so much developing so fast when this whole thing started, its rather nice to have somewhat of calmness before the storm. By this I mean the logistic side of things come in waves and when one thing needs to happen so do about five others. But for right now and I do stress the phrase "for right now" I am left to focus on my training for the big climb. Whether it be my weight lifting, cardio, or climbing, it is quite nice to have only one focus.
I am so fortunate to have some of the most beautiful country as the backdrop to my life. I walk out the door and within minutes I am surrounded by natures playground. Last week we headed out to what was supposed to be a short day on the snow but for every step forward we took our curiosity grew to see what was just around the corner. Well, I will spare you the long, oh so long story and keep it short and sweet.
Although this was a good days climb and we stepped off the mountain in good health and good spirits we did however break a few of our on rules. I want to stress how important it is to stop where you said you would stop. Seeking adventure is akin to the notion that the world is flat. We find ways to get closer to the edge and sometimes even hang from it by a mere thread but like the ships that never returned to their port we sometimes find ourselves ill prepared for the adventure we sought only to walk off that very edge.
We all know what its like to look up at the sky and say "oh we have plenty of light" but the fact is every step you take past your turnaround point you deal with more unknown variables. It is those unknown variables that can completely change the days objective from general mountaineering to technical climbing or worse a technical rescue. We reinforced a lot of invaluable lessons that day all of which allow us to come back and do it again.
So in keeping things short, the day proved to be pretty epic we climbed, we tested ourselves, we pushed through. The cuts and scrapes will heal and fade away with the onset of the next adventure and in the end we are afforded another opportunity to climb, NORTH.
